He gave his heart to the Lord at the age of nine and was called into the ministry when he was eighteen years old. Upon graduation from high school, Sam attended Southwestern Assemblies of God Bible College, where he received a B.S. in Pastoral Ministries and Evangelism in 1983. Sam was ordained by the Kansas District of the Assemblies of God in 1986.
Sam has been on the field as an evangelist for twenty years, communicating God's Word to all generations through youth camps, district camp meetings, conventions and churches across the nation. Sam was also one of the featured speakers at the 1997 General Council of the Assemblies of God in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Missions involvement has been strongly impressed on the heart of Sam, and his own familys conversion is a fruitful testimony of world missions outreach. Sam has participated in crusades and special projects in Thailand, Viet Nam, Mexico, Russia and Indonesia. Samuel Rijfkogel Ministries financially supports four Assemblies of God missionaries and has personally supported three home missions Church Plants. His special overseas projects include planting churches in Mexico, China, and Russia, an orphanage in Viet Nam.
In April 2000 Sam's television ministry program, Reason for Rejoicing, was launched on the TCT Network and SkyAngel One Network being broadcast in the United States and to 175 other countries around the world. The program targets the unsaved and its objective is to plug them into the local church Body.
It was in August 1996, that God brought Sam to First Assembly of God, Grand Rapids, to minister in the revival services that lasted nearly three years and over 17,000 people make decisions for Jesus Christ.
Sam currently serves the Senior Pastor of Grand Rapids First Assembly in Grand Rapids, MI, where he lives with his wife, Brenda, and their two children, Nathan and Sarah.
